Food for Thought

Food for Thought (for the individual)

Following recipes, planning meals and preparing a shopping list can be a challenge for those in the early to mid stages of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. The Food for Thought Program benefits this client group by providing in home assessments by a volunteer who record the needs and food preferences of the ADRD client and their family. The volunteer will assist in the planning and preparation of simple and nutritious meals including, shopping and food preparation. Over the six week program the client will be provided with all the ‘tools’ required to prepare an evening meal in a stress-free environment.  The clients and volunteer create a meal plan, prepare the shopping list, purchase necessary food items and prepare the meal.

Food for Thought (in the Community)

In September 2009 the Food for Thought Program will be expanding to operate out of Dearness Long Term Care Facility.  The program will have the same basic “ingredients” including; following recipes, planning and preparing meals and enjoying a nutritious meal, except this version will be in a group setting.  The spouses of residents at Dearness Long Term Care facility will be gathering together to cook, socialize and enjoy dinning among their new friends and loved ones.
