“SAVING THOUGHTS WITH YOUR PENNIES”
Dear friend:
We want to take this opportunity to thank you very much for being such a loyal supporter of the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex (ASLM). With you behind us, we are making great strides. Yet with the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) increasing due to our aging population, we need to do more.
- Over 7,000 people in London and Middlesex County are affected by ADRD. By 2031, more than 16,000 Middlesex residents will have ADRD – an increase of 119 per cent.
- Over 50 per cent of persons with ADRD live at home, cared for by spouses who may themselves be frail or in poor health, or by children, usually daughters or daughters-in-law, caught between caring for their own families as well as for parents, in need of increasing support.
- Caring for someone with dementia is one of the most demanding and distressing of all caregiving roles, and also one of the longest, typically lasting ten years or more.
To continue providing the most innovative support services to our community, ASLM needs your help.
Our goal is to reach out to more families affected by ADRD earlier in the disease process. We aim to provide the right support services and education at the right time and at no cost to health care providers, individuals with ADRD, and their caregivers.
Without your support, we cannot do all that we need to do.
We will put your pennies to work:
- to provide Caregiver Manuals for our Resource Centre
- family support counseling for ADRD clients and their families
- ADRD education for Family Physicians to increase awareness of diagnostic and treatment options
- Caregiver Support Groups
- community based Memory Clinic Days for early detection of memory concerns
Please know that the help that you provide today is putting us on course to successfully provide the services needed to the over 7,000 families in London and Middlesex County affected by ADRD. We know that with your help, we can continue to make a real difference.
Sincerely,
Betsy Little
Executive Director
