Clinical Trials and Research Studies

There are a number of clinical trials and reseach studies underway across Canada generally and in London specifically. We will attempt to keep this space current with opportunities that we are made aware of through our partnership with St. Joseph's Health Care London, Western University and other centres across the region and country.

Clinical Trial #1

Western University’s Faculty of Information and Media Studies is looking for volunteers to take part in a study on how information is used by caregivers when providing care for an aging family member or friend. Participants will be asked to take part in a 60-90 minute interview, asking about how information is used in order to provide care. Clinical Trial #2

Western University is looking for participants to take part in a clinical trial of Ambroxol (a cough medicine with an excellent safety record that is not currently available in Canada) and the effects it may have on the development of Parkinson’s disease dementia. If you are over 50 and have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease with a cognitive impairment, you may be eligible to participate. Clinical Trial #3

The Geriatric Medicine department at the London Health Sciences Centre is looking for volunteers to take part in a physical exercise study. If you are 60 years old or over, have trouble remembering things, and do not have Alzheimer’s disease you may be eligible to participate. Clinical Trial #4

Western’s Faculty of Health Sciences and the School of Physical Therapy are looking for volunteers to participate in their study investigating how walking is affected by mobility aids. If you are over the age of 50, have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and either do or do not use a mobility aid, you could be eligible to participate. Clinical Trial #5

The Health and Rehabilitation Sciences department at Western University is looking for volunteers to partake in their study about the challenges that older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) may face when following a Mediterranean diet. Participants will not need to change their current eating habits in any way. You may be eligible to participate if you have proficient English skills and a diagnosis of MCI.
